The last Friday in November belonged to all those whose hearts beat to the rhythm of ones and zeros at the Faculty of Information Technology. It is true that a certain propensity for the world of information technology is to be expected at our university, but the sixth year of the interactive …

FIT researchers work on preventing laser dazzling of pilots by developing a security system that finds the attacker
The pilot is preparing for landing on the runway when a blinding green beam illuminates the entire cockpit. It was just hit from the ground by an attacker using lasers. Each year, the police register several dangerous incidents that could potentially result in a tragedy. Therefore, the Václav Havel Airport in cooperation with the Czech Police reached out to researchers from the FIT BUT, CTU and the University of Defence. The goal is to design a system of aerial protection against low-power lasers. -
Research means constant learning. It is a great job for the curious, says graduate working in Singapore
Jakub Pružinec, an FIT graduate, has been working in the distant Singapore for over two years. At Nanyang Technological University (NTU), he is a research assistant in the HP-NTU Corporate Lab, a new laboratory created in collaboration between the university and HP. "You get a taste of both, the academia and the industry," Jakub Pružinec says. -
FIT intern at CERN is developing particle accelerator monitoring software
It started with an interest in nuclear physics, chemistry and energy, and continued with an internship at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva. Since March, FIT student Silvie Němcová has been working as an intern in a team developing software that is part of CERN's critical infrastructure. "For me, it is a great opportunity to combine IT with my other interests, while participating in a project which includes interesting experiments," she says. -
Matej Viskupič's award-winning algorithm will be used at the National Museum
The algorithm for tracking people, developed by Matej Viskupič, a student of the Faculty of Information Technology, helps determine the optimal placement of exhibits in museums and galleries. His work was awarded by the Sewio company, the main partner of the Excel@FIT 2022 student competition, which also deals with this problem in its business. In addition, the system will be installed this summer at the National Museum in Prague.

BUT sensors protect bee colonies from starvation and theft
Do you like honey? And do you know what it takes to get it on your table? The bees must survive the winter, start collecting nectar in the spring and not freeze to death. But even warm weather and a strong bee colony are no guarantees that the beekeeper will be able to extract the honey. The bees can swarm and fly away, starve, or be stolen with the beehive. But there is a way to prevent all that: ApiVčelař 4.0 and the smart scales and sensors invented by BUT experts that remotely provide data to beekeepers.

Painting with the motif of death from the Královo Pole monastery
The ancient buildings of the former Carthusian monastery in Královo Pole hide many artistic treasures within their walls. The lavish monastery founded by the Moravian branch of the royal House of Luxembourg was one of the most important religious institutions in Moravia since the Middle Ages, which naturally influenced the selection of outstanding architects, painters, sculptors and artisans who worked on it. Although the monastery, dissolved by the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, has not served its original purpose for 240 years, several remarkable testaments to its history remain. One of them is the scene of the Carthusian dance of death in one of the monastery hallways.

For his academic and pedagogical achievements, Adam Herout received a silver medal from the Rector this year. In 2015, at the age of 37, he became one of the youngest professors at BUT. He works at the Department of Computer Graphics and Multimedia at the Faculty of Information Technology, where he focuses on computer vision, as well as at Angelcam, a company he co-founded. He writes a blog for students in his spare time and does coaching. Yet, Adam Herout often says: 'I am an amateur and a dilettante'.

An app developed by a FIT student helps create a perfect diet
Kilojoules and protein intake, eating chicken with rice instead of burger with fries - do you think that only bodybuilders worry about their diet? That's not the case at all! Everyone should be interested in nutrition, whether they want to lose weight, build muscles, or just maintain the same weight they had when they were twenty (if advisable). It should now be easier than ever to create the perfect diet thanks to an app developed by a computer science student from Brno University of Technology. Lovers of sweets or the aforementioned burger will also find something to enjoy. -
If you want to found a faculty, you need a notebook. Preferably a lined one
He has been coming to the building at Božetěchova since 1969. When Tomáš Hruška spent days and nights here working with a mainframe computer as a student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in the 1970s, it probably would not have occurred to him that he would one day be the first Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology to be established here. He still remembers founding of FIT as one of the most enjoyable periods of his long career.
