Lukáš Sekanina se věnuje výzkumu biologií inspirované umělé inteligence, zejména genetickému programování, a aplikacím v oblastech automatizovaného návrhu, adaptace a aproximace hardware a software. Patří mezi 2% nejcitovanějších vědců v oboru Information & Communication Technologies [Plos Biology 2020].
