The "Smart Autopilot" provides for automatic flight control, when the pilot-selected autopilot mode is activated, allowing for more efficient crew workload reduction and a redistribution of awareness in favor of navigation tasks and avionic systems control. The Smart Autopilot system includes a primary flight display with an integrated flight control computer, multifunction display, a set of electromechanical actuators, a digital navigation platform, and a propulsion-monitoring unit. The smart autopilot is commanded through: a touch-screen user interface that is part of the primary flight display and multifunction display, a dedicated return button on the instrument panel, and an autopilot button located at the top of the control stick/wheel grip. Selectable autopilot modes contain stabilization of indicated airspeed IAS, altitude ALT, track TRK, and automatic flight according to a predefined flight plan.
