AnPaSim v1
Created: 2020
medical device, automated anesthesia, controlled hypotension
AnPaSIM is an extensible pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) discrete time simulation model. This tool was created as a part of AQUAS research project, in Medical devices work group developing a device for automated anesthesia during operations. For this reason, PATMOD is originally focused at anesthesiological targets and related drugs such as Sodium Nitroprusside, Nitroglycerin and Rocuronium. We model effects of controlled hypotension and blocking of neuromuscual transmission (NMT).
AnPaSIM was built to be integrated in a larger distributed simulation environment, expecting drug dosages on its inputs and outputing body responses to the anesthesia. PATMOD has fairly general architecture so further PK/PD models can be added.
Implemented PK/PD models were inspired by current pharmacological, medical and clinical literature. Unfortunatelly, full validation of the implemented PK/PD models was not possible due to lack of clinical data. Moreover, human beings differ widely in their reactions to given drugs. Outputs of the model were at least confronted to theoretical expectations like half-life characteristic, expected recovery time (NMT) and so on.
