Actuator-Sensor-Interface Interconnectivity
fieldbus, hierarchical architecture, reusable interconnection, case study
This paper deals with hierarchical, multiple fieldbus architectures using two case studies that present some concepts reusable in developing the interconnections of intelligent sensors and actuators. The single-master, low-level fieldbusses considered involve ASI (Actuator-Sensor-Interface), which is the main studied issue, and NBIP (Nine-Bit Inter-processor Protocol), which is an example of a special purpose protocol. To offer more complex insight, implementation tools--developed particularly to support various low-level fieldbus interconnecting experiments--are also mentioned. Two case studies demonstrating consequently NBIP-ASI and ASI-ASI hierarchical coupling structures create kernel issue of the paper.
