Abstract

The paper discusses punishment of plagiarism and other forms of forbidden cooperation of students within student's projects. The author has experiences in this field from the Faculty of Information Technology, Brno University of Technology. The main aim of this paper is to share experiences with the teachers from other universities.

Common reasons and forms of plagiarism are introduced and possible penalties are evaluated. In order to boost the discussion, several questions and open problems connected with this topic are place here: (1) Can we punish authors in the same way as we punish pirates? (2) Where is the border between the permissible and non-permissible behaviour? How to prove a passing of this border? (3) Should we remunerate the additional work of the teachers necessary for plagiarism handling?
