Abstract

IPv6 should bring a significant simplification of the IP header. The aim was to eliminate as many items as possible and thus facilitate the work of routers. Another requirement was to implement a mechanism allowing future expansion of the IPv6 protocol. This article summarizes experience with extension headers.
