Abstract

This article looks at the Semantic Web from the viewpoint of a databasesystem. We compare the Semantic Web to an object-oriented dtaabase,look at the concepts shared by these two and give a formal definitionof an OODB vocabulary on top of the Resource Description Framework(RDF). This lays foundations for further extensions of the OODB datamodel in the direction of greater flexibility and shows thatdevelopment of the Semantic Web could be inspired by OODBs inareal like access control or versioning.
