Seminar of Physics
IFS Acad. year 2019/2020 Winter semester 2 credits
The course is focused on the basic terms and methods used in physics. It teaches students to describe real events in inanimate nature and to understand them. It repeats and expands the subject of physics, which is common in high schools: Basic concepts of mechanics, electric field, capacitance, capacitors, electric current, resistors, magnetic field.

Learning objectives
The course covers a few basic goals.
The first goal is the revision of the physics high school knowledges with a focus on the basic terms and methods used in physics, mechanics, electricity and magnetism.
The second goal of the course is the growth of engineering thinking, increasing the ability to analyze and solve simple and complex physical and technical issues.
The third goal of the course is to understand the basic physics laws in their contexts. Why things work the way they do. The goal is not only to describe physical reality, but also to understand physical principles.
The course is suitable for all students, but especially for those who came from high schools, where physics was taught only to limited extend.
Why is the course taught
For an engineer, it is essential to be able to solve complex technical problems from different areas of technology. The necessary premise is creative analytical thinking.
Physics not only provides engineers with insights into the functioning of natural laws, but also teaches them how to analyze, describe and solve complex problems. If an engineer gains and masters these skills, he/she will be successful throughout his/hers professional career.
The course is suitable for all IT specializations. However, especially for specializations in hardware, IoT, cyber physical systems, robotics, embedded systems, industrial IT systems, computer graphics and multimedia, virtual and augmented reality, computer vision, gaming industry, sound, speech and natural language processing, bioinformatics, intelligent systems, intelligent devices, mathematical methods in IT.

High school mathematics and physics.

Progress assessment
Credit will be awarded if the student does not have more than two absences from the demonstration exercise (even unjustified). A higher number of absences must be duly excused (medical certificate, etc.), the replacement of these excused absences is the elaboration of the given examples. In the last week of the semester there will be a small control test of knowledge and skills, which must be attended or arranged for a replacement.
Controlled instruction
Attendance is mandatory. A signature on the attendance list is required.
