Introduction to medical IS's (MIS), computer as a part of diagnostic, therapeutic and information systems. Hierarchy and functionality of MIS; departmental IS, clinical IS, hospital IS, regional IS, national IS; database structure of MIS; coding of medical data; development of MIS; use of centralized and distributed databases. Multimedia; electronic patient information record; data aquisition and processing on different levels of MIS; ethics and security of medical data; legal rules and standards; national and international standards for data transfer between different MIS. Healthcare manager information system based on data warehouse.

Students get overview about current medical IS, data types used in those IS, data transfer, coding and standardization. In laboratory and during visit of particular hospitals students may see practical use of IS.
Learning objectives
The goal of the course is to inform students about different applications of computers in healthcare. Special attention is paid to development and use of hospital information systems. Data types in HIS, information coding, use of national and international standards, data transfer are partial topics of the course. Important topic is phasing of HIS development and use of data warehouses as a base for manager information systems.
