Learning objectives

The aim of the subject is a professional language preparation of students for a study in English or a service abroad with the emphasis on the professional accuracy of English terminology in electronics and microelectronics. The subject is set for the students having basic knowledge of English grammar and spoken English.
Students with the basic knowledge of English will get further knowledge of precise English terminology in electronics and microelectronics needed for a continuation of their study in English or for a work abroad. In addition to the professional terminology the students will learn the behaviour in basic situations of university or working life.¨
Students who complete the course successfully should be able to:
- explain precise English terminology in electronics and microelectronics,
- discuss and explain basic subjects of electrical engineering (electric circuits, electric current, electrical conductors) and on subjects in his/her field of study on the basis of the acquired professional vocabulary,
- read or to write down basic mathematical expressions and processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, brackets, decimal numbers, fractions, powers, roots, equations),
- describe electronic system properties and to verbalize graphs, charts and trends,
- describe technical functions and applications and explain how electronic technology works,
- describe common materials and alloys and to describe their properties,
- describe electronics component properties and features,
- describe various types of technical problems and causes of faults,
- discuss technical requirements of new products (needs analysis in technical contexts) and to assess the feasibility of proposed technical solutions,
- solve the behaviour in basic situations of university or working life.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Secondary school level knowledge and intermediate level of English are required.
